Ice climber setting up a belay anchor point at the top of a pitch of a Grade V 4 multi-pitch ice climb in Scotland
Summary
editDescriptionBelay Anchor on Ice Climb.jpg |
English: Two half-in ice screws into snow ice, two ice-axes into neve, and an ice-hook into neve. This would not hold a leader fall. At least the belay stance was good, and so it would have been all right to hold a fall by the second on this crux pitch, though Andy Nisbet justifiably warned me before I started seconding, “The belay is bad, don’t fall!”. Note there was no bombproof gear in this 45-metres crux pitch, and there was no gear in the next 35 metres, though easy, pitch, either. Scottish V 4 is the grade we agreed for this new route. Pretty serious route. |
