Description
English: Bell cage. The Church of St Mary the Virgin East Bergholt was built under the Patronage of Cardinal Wolsey. After his spat with Henry VIII the money dried up so no bell tower could be built. As a temporary measure the locals constructed this ground level bell cage, originally on the other side of the church until the occupant of the nearby manor house 639887 paid for it to be moved to the far side of the church. Clearly things move slowly in Suffolk as they are still waiting for the bell tower to be built! In the mean time the bell cage has to do. I trust the campanologists wear ear defenders.
