Description
English: Belt Lodge Formerly called Belt Lodge, this early 19th century cottage orné with tree trunk veranda is located by the junction of Gashouse Hill with Sir William's Lane. Pevsner's glossary describes this style as "an artfully rustic small house associated with the Picturesque movement". (N. Pevsner & B. Wilson, The Buildings of England, 2002). The cottage started out as a lodge guarding the entrance of a drive to the farmhouse in the centre of the Belt estate (now known as the Belt); originally a small building it was extended to almost double its original size during the last century.
