Summary edit

Description
English: A typical characteristic of Hoysala architecture is the star shaped base upon which the temple is built. Friezes (rectangular band of sculptures) of charging elephants decorate the base of the outer walls. Above them lions and further up horses. There are also panels with floral designs. Above them, panels depicting Ramayana and Mahabharata have been set. Hoysala artistry preferred discretion about sexuality, mingling miniature erotic sculptures in unconspicuous places like recesses and niches. Sculptures mostly depict daily life of that period.
