| Description |
English: Ben Armine Ben Armine is ridge, about 10km long in a very remote part of Sutherland. It takes a lot of effort to get to, and those who do visit are rewarded with some fearsome peat bogs. Get past the bogs however and the terrain becomes rather like the mountain country of central Sweden. Thin soils on rounded peaks with several typical arctic species, like dwarf willow. The walking here is very easy as the boggy parts are partly tamed by a high quality path network and the tundra is carpet slipper country. The only obstacle is distance.
There are three main summits, two in particular stand out in distant views. The photograph is taken from one, Creag a' Choire Ghlais looking towards the highest top, Creag Mhòr. |
