Summary edit

Description
English: Clay wheel-made, bell-shaped female figurine from a Boeotian workshop 720-700 BC. The figurine had separately movable legs. The garment is richly decorated, with a scene of a female dance at the center. The piece belongs to a characteristic category of Boeotian figurines which were initially considered to be children's toys. According to another view the decorative motives on the garments probably depict divine figures associated with the rebirth of nature and protective companions of the dead on their long journey to the afterlife. Many figurines of this type have been found in the graves of women and children. Benaki Toy Museum.
