Description
Deutsch: Die ehemalige Städtische Blinden-Anstalt in der Oranienstraße 26 in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Das Gebäude entstand 1863-1864 als 20. Gemeindeschule nach Plänen von Adolf Gerstenberg. 1867-1868 baute Gerstenberg auf demselben Grundstück die 42. Gemeindeschule mit Fassade an der parallel verlaufenden Naunynstraße. Ab 1902 wurden Teile des Komplexes von der Städtischen Blindenanstalt genutzt. Um- und Erweiterungsbauten datieren auf die Jahre 1910-1914. Der Komplex ist als Gesamtanlage denkmalgeschützt.
English: The former Municipal Institution for the Blind at Oranienstraße No. 26 in Berlin-Kreuzberg. The building was constructed from 1863 to 1864 to a design by Adolf Gerstenberg as 20th Municipal School. From 1867 to 1868, Gerstenberg also built the 42nd Municipal School on the same lot, but with the facade on parallel Naunynstraße. Starting in 1902, parts of the complex were used by the Municipal Institution for the Blind. Alterations and annexes date to 1910 to 1914. The whole complex has been designated a historic landmark.
