Description
Deutsch: Das ehemalige Friedrichsgymnasium in der Friedrichstraße 126 in Berlin-Mitte, seit 2004 Zentrale der Ullstein Buchverlage, die von München umgesiedelt sind. Die 1848-1849 als erste Schule der Friedrich-Wilhelm-Stadt errichtete Anlage bestand ursprünglich aus einem Vorder- und einem Hintergebäude; ein zweites Hintergebäude wurde 1889 erbaut. Das Vorderhaus ist ein nüchterner, viergeschossiger Klinkerverblendbau mit neun Achsen. Die hohen Rundbogenfenster im vierten Stockwerk verweisen auf die Lage der früheren Schulaula. Im zweiten Hintergebäude ist der ehemalige Musiksaal mit fein gearbeiteter Holzdecke erhalten geblieben. Das Gebäude diente in der DDR-Zeit als Sitz der Fach-/Berufsschule für Gaststätten und Hotelwesen. Danach war hier das Oberstufenzentrum Verkehr, Wohnungswirtschaft, Steuer untergebracht. Für die Ullstein Buchverlage wurde der Komplex 2003-2004 nach Plänen des englischen Architekten David Chipperfield umgebaut; das Hintergebäude wurde dabei um zwei Etagen aufgestockt. Der gesamte Komplex ist als Gesamtanlage denkmalgeschützt.
