Deutsch: Wohn- und Verwaltungsgebäude der ehemaligen Rohrnetzwerkstatt der Berliner Wasserbetriebe in der Melchiorstraße 20-22 in Berlin-Mitte. Es wurde 1936-1937 nach Entwürfen von Carl Theodor Brodführer erbaut. Das Haus zeigt eine klar strukturierte Fassade mit Muschelkalkverkleidung im Sockelgeschoss und Klinkern in den Obergeschossen. Insbesondere die Hofdurchfahrt mit Pfeilern, einem Figurenrelief, das Arbeiter der Wasserwerke zeigt, und Medaillons mit Segelschiffen, Möwen und einem Berliner Bär harmoniert mit dem zeitgenössischen nationalsozialistischen Baustil, wobei das Gebäude insgesamt aber eher in der Tradition der modernen Architektur der 1920er-Jahre steht. Es ist als Baudenkmal ausgeiwesen.
English: Residential and administration building of the former piping factory of the Berlin Water Supply Works at Melchiorstraße No. 20-22 in Berlin-Mitte. It was built 1936 to 1937 to a design by Carl Theodor Brodführer. The house has a clearly structured facade with limestone at the base followed by brick on the upper stories. The passage with colums, a relief showing workers and medaillons with sailboats, gulls and a Berlin bear is formulated in the contemporary style of Nazi architecture, whereas the building as a whole resembles 1920s modernist structures. It has been designated a historic landmark. |
