| Description | The Bethel Gospel Assembly is located in the former James Fenimore Cooper Junior High School building at 2 East 120th Street between Madison and Fifth Avenues in the Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. Founded in 1916 by two black worshipers who were rejected for membership in a white church, the Assembly had four previous locations before acquiring the school building – which was built in 1942 in the Classic Moderne style – in the early 1980s.
