| Description |
The interior of the old Bevatron building at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, CA. When this picture was taken the building was nearing completion of a multi-year demolition and the decommissioned ring had already been removed, leaving only the structural framework of the facility. When it was built in 1954 the Bevatron was the world's most powerful particle accelerator, capable of 1BeV collisions. Research at the Bevatron resulted in the discovery of the antiproton and led to several Nobel Prizes in physics. |
