Description

Cette miniature reprend l'incipit du livre de Daniel : Anno tertio regni Ioakim regis Iuda, venit Nabuchodonosor rex Babylonis in Ierusalem.

La miniature montre ce qui est rapporté dans le livre III de Daniel, notamment la persécution par Nabuchodonosor des trois juifs Sadrach, Mesac et Abdènego. Le roi avait en effet imposé l'adoration d'une statue d'or, mais les trois juifs se rebellèrent et Nabuchodonosor ordonna qu'ils soient jetés dans la fournaise. Les trois ont été sauvés par Dieu qui les a fait sortir de la fournaise indemnes (Daniel, III, versets 22-24: Porro viros illos, qui miserant Sidrach, Misach, et Abdenago, interfecit flamma ignis. Viri autem hi tres, id est, Sidrach, Misach, et Abdenago, ceciderunt in medio camino ignis ardentis, colligati. Et ambulabant in medio flammae laudantes Deum, et benedicentes Domino.
