Description

A Biblioteca Nacional, também chamada de Biblioteca Nacional do Rio de Janeiro, é a depositária do patrimônio bibliográfico e documental do Brasil, considerada pela UNESCO como a sétima biblioteca nacional do mundo e, também, é a maior biblioteca da América Latina. Entre suas várias responsabilidades incluem-se a de preservar, atualizar e divulgar uma coleção com mais de oito milhões de peças, que teve início com a chegada da Real Biblioteca de Portugal ao Brasil e cresce constantemente, a partir de doações, aquisições e com o depósito legal.

The Biblioteca Nacional (National Library in Portuguese) is the depository of the bibliographic and documentary heritage of Brazil. It is located in Rio de Janeiro, at Cinelândia square.

One of the largest libraries in The Americas, its collections include over 9 million items.

La Biblioteca Nacional de Brasil (Biblioteca Nacional do Brasil en portugués, también llamada Biblioteca Nacional do Rio de Janeiro) es el centro depositario del patrimonio bibliográfico y documental de Brasil, además de ser la biblioteca más grande de Latinoamérica al poseer un acervo de alrededor de 8,5 millones de piezas.[1] Entre sus responsabilidades se encuentran las de actualizar, preservar y divulgar su colección, la cual comenzó con el arribo de la Real Biblioteca de Portugal a Brasil y que ha crecido de una forma constante, a partir de donaciones, adquisiciones o por depósito legal.

La sede de la Biblioteca se localiza en la ciudad de Río de Janeiro, en frente a Cinelândia, sobre la Avenida Rio Blanco. Al igual que otras bibliotecas naciones de América, la perteneciente a España y la respectiva de Portugal, la Biblioteca Nacional de Brasil forma parte de la Asociación de Bibliotecas Nacionales de Iberoamérica.
