I took a night photo of this globe last year and posted it then. This one was during the day and is an HDR. made using Photo Efex Pro. I sort of like all the reflections in the glass. It is in the lobby of the map company, DeLorme, in nearby Yarmouth, Maine and is visible from I 295. When my children were young they liked to watch on TV a show called "Big Blue Marble" that opened with a view of the earth from space much like this globe is intended to be. The theme of the show was that we all share this same space. Something we all need to keep in mind as we try to sort our our differences and grapple with people from the other side of the world moving to "our" side. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlIx0pdjp-Q" rel="nofollow">www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlIx0pdjp-Q</a> Eartha is a 3-dimensional scale model of our earth with mountains and landforms in full 3D, that rotates and revolves, simulating the earth’s real movements. The mapping data, which took over a year to compile, is completely unique. It is a special composite database built from satellite imagery, shaded relief, colored bathymetry (ocean depth data) and information from terrestrial sources, such as road networks and urban areas. T Eartha's "skeleton" is the Omni-Span™ Truss structure - a DeLorme-developed system of over 6,000 pieces of lightweight aluminum tubing. The "skin" is constructed of over 792 map sections; Each panel spans 8° latitude by 10° longitude Visit Eartha™ at DeLorme Headquarters, in Yarmouth, Maine Housed in a three-story glass atrium at the company's headquarters in Yarmouth, Maine. |
