Description
English: An early winter snowstorm brought blizzard conditions to the Northern Plains after dumping heavy snow in the northern Rocky Mountain states from October 8 through 12, 2019. According to The Weather Channel, parts of North Dakota received the most snow, with totals of 30 inches (76.2 cm) in Harvey and 29 inches (74 cm) in Vang, both towns located in the northern section of the state. Snow totals in Dupree, South Dakota reached 12.9 in (33 cm) while Wyoming’s Sugar Loaf Campground, both north of Bighorn National Forest. On October 19, 2019, NASA’s Terra satellite flew over Wyoming and South Dakota, allowing the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board to capture a true-color image of the region. Wyoming’s Bighorn National Forest (west) wears a blanket of snow while the Black Hills National Forest, which straddles Wyoming and South Dakota, appears snow-free.
