Description
English: Birmingham Council House The morning sunshine picks out the architectural detail on the Council House (not to be confused with the adjacent Town Hall) in Victoria Square. The Council House was designed by Yeoville Thomason and built between 1874 and 1879 at a total cost was £163,000. The front, seen here, has a pediment showing Britannia receiving the manufacturers of Birmingham. When it was being built there were long arguments as to whether it should be called The Municipal Hall, Council House, or Guildhall. It is now a Grade II listed building, used for all Council and most Committee meetings.
