English: Birmingham Snow Hill Station Looking to the north west. Here, a train in the old Central trains livery has just arrived from Worcester.
Birmingham Snow Hill has had a chequered history. It was the main GWR station in Birmingham and saw regular express trains from London to the north west. It was deemed redundant in the infamous Beeching report of the 1960's and express trains were moved to New Street in 1967. A few local services to Langley Green and Wolverhampton lingered on until 1972 when the station was closed and most of its buildings were demolished. It was rebuilt and reopened in 1987 as a local transport hub, providing rail, tram and bus links and its future now seems assured. |
