Description
Deutsch: Das hochrechteckige Bild in zeitgenössischem Rahmen zeigt einen Blick in den Ostchor des Trierer Domes. Dargestellt ist die Konsekration des Johann Nepomuk August Freiherr von Ungelter zu Deissenhausen (1731-1804) zum Titularbischof von Pella und Weihbischof von Augsburg am 29. August 1779 durch den Trierer Erzbischof und Kurfürsten Clemens Wenzeslaus, der zugleich auch Bischof von Augsburg war. Der unbekannte Maler hat den Augenblick dargestellt, als der Erzbischof, vor dem Hochaltar des Trierer Domes sitzend, unter Assistenz der beiden kirchenrechtlich notwendigen bischöflichen Mitkonsekratoren dem vor ihm knienden Weihbischof die Mitra aufsetzt. Zahlreiche Kleriker stehen zu beiden Seiten und verrichten verschiedene Altardienste: einer reicht dem Erzbischof das Rituale, ein anderer hält seinen Bischofstab. Wieder andere, vor den Altarstufen stehend, halten die Bischofsstäbe der Mitkonsekratoren sowie das Vortragekreuz.
