English: Curiosity Digs In
This pair of images shows a "bite mark" where NASA's Curiosity rover scooped up some Martian soil (left), and the scoop carrying soil. The first scoop sample was taken from the "Rocknest" patch of dust and sand on Oct. 7, 2012, the 61st sol, or Martian day, of operations. A third scoop sample was collected on Oct. 15, or Sol 69, and deposited into the Chemistry and Mineralogy (CheMin) instrument on Oct. 17, or Sol 71. These images were taken by Curiosity's Mast Camera. Scientists enhanced the color in this version to show the Martian scene as it would appear under lighting conditions on Earth, which helps in analyzing the terrain.Polski: Curiosity podczas wykopalisk
Para zdjęć pokazuje "Znak ugryzienia" marsjańskiego podłoża, skąd łazik Curiosity zgarnął trochę marsjańskiego piasku (z lewej) oraz czerpak łopatki niosący tenże piasek (z prawej). Próbka została zaczerpnięta z wydmy piasku i kurzu nazwanej "Rocknest". Wydarzenie miało miejsce 7 października 2012, czyli kolejnego 61 marsjańskiego (Sol 61) dnia operacji łazika Curiosity (licząc od 5 sierpnia 2012 - dzień lądowania łazika Curiosity na Marsie.). Trzecią próbkę zebrano 15 października, albo 69 marsjańskiego (Sol 69) dnia misji łazika Curiosity i przekazano do Instrumentu Chemii i mineralogii (Chemin), 17 października, albo Sol 71. Zdjęcia te, zostały zrobione przez MastCam 34 jedną z dwu kamer umieszczonych na zdalnie sterowanym maszcie. Naukowcy poprawili parametry ekspozycji zdjęcia tak, aby zobaczyć obraz taki, jaki zobaczylibyśmy w warunkach oświetleniowych na Ziemi.
