bitter-leaf used to prepare some local delicacies in Africa especially among the Igbos of Nigeria.

| Description |
English: This is bitter leaf. It very bitter if chewed. It is used to prepare a soup using cocoyam, meat, stock fish amongst other items. Before being used, we often wash, squeeze it to make sure that bitterness goes away to a great extent. It is also used to prepare porridge yam with crayfish.
The Igbos, my people believe that the leaf cures stomach ache.
Igbo: Nke a bụ akwụkwọ ilu. Ọ na-ewute nke ukwuu ma ọ bụrụ na ata ya. A na-eji koko, anụ, azụ̀ anụ na ihe ndị ọzọ akwadebe ofe. Tupu e jiri ya mee ihe, anyị na-asakarị, na-amanye ya iji jide n'aka na obi ilu na-apụ n'anya nke ukwuu. A na-ejikwa ya akwadebe ji porridge na crayfish. Ndi Igbo, ndim kwere na akwukwo na-agwọ afo afo. |
