Black-shouldered Kite, Elanus axillaris +============================+ We are now in the second week of our one week 6th lockdown. Limited to just a couple of hours out and a five km area. None of our normal birding spots fit that tight requirement. So I'd wander down to have a look at a recently hatched clutch of Black Swans in the local water retarding basis. It cuts through a recent housing development. And as a bonus at the end of my walk is a take-away coffee shop (Or hot choc in my case) Just took a short lens as the Swans are reasonably close to approach. Ready to go I turned about, and up the wetland swept a young Black-shouldered Kite. First I've seen there in the few years I've walked the area.

To my surprise it flew up to within about 30m, descended quite low and went into hunt/flutter mode. Moments later it dropped into the grass in front of me.
