editDescriptionBlack-tailed Prairie Dog (48743030733).jpg |
Black-tailed prairie dogs are common to the Colorado plains. Averaging 15 inches in length, they remain underground for days to remain hidden from predators and to keep warm during cold winter months. They live in family groups for mating and for protection. They use an elaborate communication system, using sounds and visual cues, to convey danger. The Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant is committed to safely destroying chemical weapons while protecting nearby communities, their historic sites and the environment.
