English: Black Sluice Pumping Station This station contains five diesel pumps for flood defence. Built 1946 and originally housed 3 x 900hp 5 cylinder turbocharged Ruston & Hornsby engines driving 100" mixed flow vertical spindle pumps. Capacity is 668 tpm at 13' static head and 885 tpm at 5' static head. That is per pump. Colossal quantities. In 1966 the station was extended over the existing navigation lock. |
