Summary edit
DescriptionBlaenau tunnel vent - geograph.org.uk - 216111.jpg |
English: Blaenau tunnel vent. One of two vents belonging to Blaenau tunnel on the Llandudno Jn to Blaenau Ffestiniog railway line. The tunnel is about 120m below, and the masses of extracted rock around the vent demonstrate what a massive effort building the tunnel must have been in 1879. The other vent is on the opposite side of 216115. At over 4km, the tunnel is the longest single track railway tunnel in the UK.
All of this square is rough grassland around the summit of Moel Dyrnogydd in S. Its eastern slope falls off steeply towards Crimea pass and has an abandoned slate mine on it. |
