Description

While the Blanca Peak group dominates the San Luis Valley of south-central Colorado as well as Taos County in north-central New Mexico, it can also be spotted from 40+ miles to the east.

FROM RIGHT TO LEFT: Mount Maestas (11,579') sits at the far right. "Point 13,828" (a.k.a. "Huerfano Peak") is just right of center, and the Iron Nipple (13,450') is in the dead center. Mount Lindsey (14,042') is the large pyramid just left of center. Ellingwood Point (14,042') is in the distance, just to the left of and behind Mount Lindsey. Blanca Peak (14,345'), Colorado's fourth-highest peak, is just to the right of Ellingwood Point. Hamilton Peak (13,658') is the last snowy peak to the left. Little Peak Peak (14,037') can barely be seen poking its head up above the ridge connecting Blanca Peak and Hamilton Peak.

This photo was taken from the SE side of the Rugby Road/I-25 interchange (Exit 41), about ten miles S/SE of Walsenburg.
