Description
English: This illustration of Blanch Lawrence was created to celebrate women who worked on the Manhattan Project and is based on a photograph of Lawrence taken for the magazine Ebony and appeared in "Atom Scientists: Ten Negro Scientists at Argonne Lab Help in Race to Harness Atomic Materials”, Ebony magazine, September 1949, pp. 26-28. Copyright not renewed. The original caption read: "Blanche Lawrence, 28, is widow of 99th Pursuit Squadron pilot who was killed in action overseas. Working at Argonne for past five years, Tuskegee graduate started as lab technician and is now junior biochemist."
