English: Euston - Workington Maundy Thursday relief express at Bletchley. View southward, towards London (West Coast Main Line), also Oxford. This 1964 scene shows work in hand on the electrification of the WCML, but predates the recontruction of the station in 1965. The locomotive is Stanier/Ivatt 5MT 4-6-0 No. 44679 (built 5/50 - fitted with roller-bearings, withdrawn 9/67). The train is a relief to the 'Lakes Express' (11.40 from Euston), one of countless 'extras' always run in those days on Maundy Thursday. |
