Description
English: View of the Windberg from Doehlen (Freital). In the foreground on the left is a DIY store, on the right are storage facilities of the Freital high-grade steel works. The site of the latter was occupied from 1880—1960 by a coal washer for the nearby mines. On the left of the coal washer was "Factory 93", a small uranium processing plant (1949—1960) of the Soviet-owned Wismut AG. Uraniferous coal was leached with hydrochloric acid and shale with carbonate of soda. The final product was sodium diuranate for the Soviet Union. The slurry with the slightly radio-active tailings of the filter presses was pumped into four settling ponds behind the photographer. The cleared water was drained off to the Weisseritz. During the busy period 600 workers processed 2410t of raw materials.

Zu erkennen ist im Hintergrund der Windberg, im Vordergrund befinden sich links ein Toom Baumarkt mit Parkplatz und rechts Lagergebäude des Edelstahlwerkes Freital. 1880—1960 befand sich auf dem Gelände des Edelstahlwerks die Döhlener Kohlenwäsche, die 1914 elektrifiziert wurde, und 1922 um eine maschinelle Trockensortierung und 1930 um ein Doppelbrechwalzwerk erweitert wurde. 1949—1960 befand sich auf engem Raum links neben der Kohlenwäsche die Uranaufbereitungsfabrik 93 der Wismut AG. Erzkohle aus Gittersee und Burgk wurde sauer gelaugt, Erzschiefer aus Ronneburg soda-alkalisch. Endprodukt war gelbes Natriumdiuranat. Die schlammartigen, schwach radioaktiven Rückstände aus den Kammerfilterpressen wurden zum Absetzen in vier höher gelegene Schlammteiche gepumpt, die sich hinter dem Rücken des Fotografen befinden. Mit knapp 600 Arbeitskräften wurden in elf Jahren 2.410t Erz verarbeitet. Die von links nach rechts verlaufende Straße ist die Hüttenstraße, auch als Umgehungsstraße für Freital bezeichnet. Sie kreuzt sich im Bildbereich mit der Schachtstraße. Das Bild wurde vom nordwestlichen Berghang der Weißeritz aus ausgenommen.
