Description

Buildings and monuments down Fleet Street in the City of London.

This is Hoare's Bank at 37 Fleet Street. The building dates from 1820-30. It is Grade II* listed.

The companies full name is C Hoare & Co, and they were founded in 1672 by Sir Richard Hoare.

It is a family run bank, and the 11th generation since it's founding is currently running it.

The business has been on this site since 1690.

Hoare's Bank - Heritage Gateway

This is a blue plaque of The Mitre Tavern, a pub that used to stand next to the Hoare's Bank. It was demolished in 1829 by the Messrs Hoare to extend their banking house.

The Mitre Tavern is famous for interesting meetings beteen Dr Johnson and Boswell. They first met here in 1763.
