Description

A summary note attached to this O'Connor shot adds a description: "Two men, possibly fishermen or harbour workers, are posing for the camera. A railway line is visible in the foreground" - but there's no expansion on the barrels, freight carriages or vessels in the background.

The O'Connor collection has provided intruiging fodder for previous investigations into location and subject, so we were hopeful of expanding on the entry for this image. Very quickly [/photos/129555378@N07/ sharon.corbet] obliged (and [/photos/8468254@N02/ derangedlemur] confirmed) by establishing that we're probably at Schull harbour. While we've yet to firm-up the date (from the opening decades of the 20th century), the comments below suggest that the barrels likely contained herring or some other local fish product...
