The Spanish bull broke loose or: Josephs flight out of Spain
Description
Satire on the Peninsular war. (British political cartoon); Two bulls, labelled John Bull and Don Bull, chase Joseph Bonaparte out of Spain. Puffs of 'liberty' emerge from the nostrils of the bulls, and John Bull is carrying a pannier of arms labelled G III Rex. Joseph is riding an ass laden with bags of gold and dollars. On a cliff in the background, small figures of the rulers of Europe cheer Joseph's departure. Behind the bulls, the city of Madrid is lit by the sun of Patriotism, while Joseph's flight takes him into a thunderstorm.; Colouring differs from BM copy as described in BMC.
