Summary edit

Description

English: „Böttinger Marmor“. A true rarity in every respect! Warm water, rising from a 200x30m chasm at the border of the volcanic pipe of a Miocene volcano piled up alternating white and red limestone, thus producing large quantities of ”Ribboned Böttingen Marble”. The output isn’t really marble in geological terms, but travertine.
The rest of the diatreme of the Böttingen volcano formed a morphological depression, as do many other volcanoes in the “Urach-Kirchheimer Vulkangebiet” of the Middle Swabian Alb. Even after 10 Mill. years of weathering and erosion the chasm and the diatreme still prevail.
