Description

My brothers Brett and Erik walk across the top of Bomber Glacier, which got its name when a Cold-War-era bomber crashed into it during a storm. The bomber is still sitting on the surface of the glacier, twisted and broken into pieces.

This is the kind of photo that I look back on and kind of cringe at. A fall into a crevasse even of this size could really hurt - not to mention that there are one or two moulins on this glacier big enough to disappear into. Bomber Glacier is just on that fine line between safe and unsafe glaciers to walk on. In general, anything where a fall could be harmful requires crampons and rope, and I would not go onto this glacier in running shoes again.
