| Description |
Presumably from the early 1920s based on landmarks and other postcards I've seen by this publisher. Back says "Pub. By Henry Kaplan, Salem, Mass." - closest reference to him that I could find was a Salem business directory from 1921 with an advertisement for "Henry Kaplan Stationery & School Supplies", which was at 48 Lafayette Street where the fire station is now. Also found a "Boston Daily Globe" article from May 6th, 1920, mentioning: "Henry Kaplan, who conducts a store at 48 Lafayette st. Salem, was convicted of violation of the Liquor laws and fined $200." Census records show he was born in 1888 in Poland. |
