Summary

edit
Description
English: Botataung was completely rebuilt after WWII, when an air raid destroyed the original. Unusually, the zedi was rebuilt as a hollow shell; one can wander through its mirrored interior and see innumerable small statues and other relics, including an elaborately-enshrined hair relic of the Buddha, that had been buried in the solid interior of the original stupa. The zedi's exterior is currently (2004) under wraps, as part of a refurbishing project.
