Description
English: Bouanga (Juanga), a type of pirogue with three rows of oars. Excerpt from the book:
The vessel employed by the Mahometans in their cruises against the Spaniards is named bouanga, and is probably the same with the proa of Commodore Anson, which he saw in the Marian isles, and which is particularly described in his voyage. Conjecturing from the velocity with which it was seen to cross the horizon, he could not suppose the rate of the bouanga or proa's sailing to be less than seven or eight leagues an hour.[1]
