Summary edit

Description
English: Boudinage in the quarry by the road at Tobha Mòr reveals some fine examples of deformed rocks. Some layers of rock are more elastic and others more brittle, depending on their composition. When they are deformed, brittle layers tend to break up into discrete lumps, like a string of sausages. These are called boudins, from a French word for sausages (actually related to the English word 'pudding' as in black pudding), and the phenomenon is referred to as boudinage. The hammer gives the scale, though boudinage can occur at almost any scale.
