Summary edit

Description

In Beaune (after leaving Patriarche). After walking past the ramparts around the north east corner of the town centre, we went back into the centre of the town via Rue du Château. We were heading towards the Hôtel-Dieu.

Le Château de Beaune

Wanted by Louis XI both to defend Beaune, but also to watch the inhabitants who had shown themselves faithful to Marie, the daughter of the Bold, it is built from 1482 and finished in 1527.

Dismantled and partly shaved under Henri IV at the request of the Beaunois, he seduced the famous engraver Lallemand who made a very romantic drawing. Belonging to the Royal Estate until the 18th century, it was sold as a National Property, during the Revolution, to the Morelot-Bouchard family, who saw all the interest in building cellars there.

Today it is home to the prestigious wines of Maison Bouchard Père et Fils.

It was the Bastion St-Jean.
