| Description |
The P111 was designed to explore and evaluate tailless delta wing aircraft. It first flew in 1950 as the P.111, originally being ordered with the serial ‘VT769’. Damaged in a landing accident, it was modified to become the P.111A and first flew as such in July 1953. It remained in use until 1958 when it was retired to the Cranfield College of Aeronautics. It was purchased by the Midland Aircraft Preservation Society (MAPS) in 1975 and since then it has been on display at the Midland Air Museum, Coventry Airport, UK. 11-10-2015 The following info is from the Midland Air Museum website:- “The BP.111A was an experimental delta wing type built in Wolverhampton to explore and test the aerodynamic properties of delta wing designs at transonic speeds.” |
