| Description |
English: Boxford: Former Lambourn Valley Railway The old railway line from Newbury to Lambourn ran on just the other side of the field boundary fence here. The line opened in 1898 and closed to regular passenger and freight traffic on 4 January 1960, fifty years previously bar a day from the date that the photograph was taken. Occasional military freight trains for RAF Welford used the line until 1973 and the track was lifted around 1976. The site of the former railway station at Boxford is over the fence at the corner of the field in the distance. |
