Danielsbakerveita er oppkalt etter bakermester Daniel Hansen Buckhof, som var tilflyttet bakersønn fra Bergen. Han tok borgerskap i Trondhjem på 1600-tallet og ble gift med den lokale bakerdatteren Odele Green.

Veita går fra Cicignons plass og ned til Fjordgata.

De ulike delene av veita har opp gjennom årene hatt forskjellige navn. Fra Cicignons plass og til Olav Tryggvasons gate kaltes den av ulike grunner Kattveita. I området hvor den passerer Brattørveita, kalles den Findvedgårdsveita. På 1700-tallet har veita også vært kalt Donsveita.
