English: The Brazilian Navy hospital ship NAsH Doutor Montenegro (U16) moored in Vila das Pedras, Brazil along the Paraná dos Ramos river bank, on 6 August 2019. This visit marked the first stop of a 26-day Brazil riverine humanitarian medical mission by five U.S. Navy and Air Forces physicians, a U.S. Navy nurse and their Brazilian counterparts deployed aboard the Doutor Montenegro. The purpose of the mission was to exchange medical expertise, provide medical care to isolated communities along the Amazon River and serve as a capstone event for the U.S. Military Tropical Medicine Course. |
