Summary edit

Description
English: In the Acadia National Park area of coastal Maine, a band of breccia called the "Shatter Zone" occurs around the Cadillac Mountain Granite, a large mid-Paleozoic pluton. The breccia formed in the subsurface during a caldera-forming event that followed a large explosive volcanic eruption (see Braun, 2016). The granite pluton itself is the remains of the cooled magma chamber beneath that ancient volcanic center.

Locality: outcrop at eastern end of Sand Beach, Mt. Desert Island, coastal Maine, USA (44° 19' 43.59" North latitude, 68° 10' 48.57" West longitude)
