English: Looking across at a degraded original IND mosaic on the Manhattan-bound platform of the Briarwood (Briarwood–Van Wyck) subway station in Briarwood, Queens. Much of the mosaic, tile band, and the lower name plate have been crudely replaced with white tile. Note, however, that this is one of the few directional nameplates that does not say "BRIARWOOD"; my guess is that it once said "QUEENS BLVD". The fare control area near Queens Boulevard at the north end of the station is closed, while a long passageway now leads to Queens Boulevard from the center mezzanine. One more thing. The stacking nature of the white tiles (progressively moving left) would indicate that a staircase was once here. But this wouldn't make any sense, as why would they build a stairway on top of a mosaic?
