English: Bricks by Joseph Hamblet This inscribed brick is laid into the parapet of the Hillmorton Road bridge at Rugby over the former Great Central Railway. It is dated 1895, four years before the railway was opened, and was manufactured at the Piercy brickworks in West Bromwich. Joseph Hamblet founded the works in 1851 and it came to specialise in blue bricks - much in demand in the latter half of the 19th century for railway and other industrial construction. The company was still trading as late as 1961. |
