Summary edit

Description
English: Bridge Piers of the old Border Counties Railway viaduct at Hexham At this point, the Border Counties Railway from Hexham to Riccarton Junction in Roxburghshire, diverged from the Newcastle to Carlisle line. The railway was operational from 1851 to 1958. It is very difficult nowadays to get a clear view of the bridge piers in the middle of the River Tyne. For pictures of the viaduct in its heyday see http://www.northumbrian-railways.co.uk/index.php?page=border-counties-junction
