Description
English: Bridge Place, Galashiels These cars are crossing Ladhope Bridge in Bridge Place and turning right down Ladhope Vale. Ladhope Bridge, erected in 1815 and rebuilt in 1889, is also known locally as the Stane Brig. Part of the former Laidlaw and Fairgrieve Mill building is on the left. Most of the mill site was demolished in 2003 and is soon to be developed into affordable housing units by Eildon Housing Association. The 15m high brick retaining wall in the background was built after a landslide engulfed the former Waverley Railway Line below in 1916.
