Description

On Halloween morn', I went for a free guided mushroom walk at the Bridle Trails State Park. Our original guide was not able to make it, so Jim Erckmann, a biologist and part of the Bridle Trails Park Foundation, jumped in and led the group. While he admitted he was not an expert on mycology, for a free beginner's walk, he still had a wealth of helpful info. I scrawled some questionable notes and came home to look up more info. Any errors in my labeling the photos are due to my own poor penmanship. If you have a correction, please feel free to leave in the comments!

Jim stressed that he was not going to provide the final word on edibility, and all the foraging stuff I've read has also said that to learn about what mushrooms are okay to eat, you really need to go out with an expert and dedicate time to learning the details before you start experimenting. And the going rule with all the mushrooming folks is "When in doubt, throw it out."
