English: British Railways filmstrip Lecture note for this slide is: "42) Here’s something bigger – that fine ship, the Falaise, the Southern Region’s first post-war vessel. She was designed for all kinds of cross-Channel. work. Now she’s in service on the Southampton – St. Malo route to France, and during the summer months has taken passen-gers on weekend cruises from England, across the Channel and up the river Seine as far as Rouen – and all for nine guineas! She has also run between Dover and Calais on the short sea route to the Continent. Voyagers think her one of the steadiest of cross-Channel ships, for she has underwater fins six feet wide which can be extended in rough weather to reduce rolling. They are operated by a press-button on the bridge." |
