Summary edit

Description
English: Allied military officers relaxing away from the lines in France, during World War I. Soldiers sitting under parasols in deckchairs or on the grass, smoking and drinking bottled beer. Their demeanours as well as their uniforms mark them out as officers. The two women standing talking to the officers appear to be nurses.

The reference to the Q.M.A.A.C. in the original caption appears to date the photo post-April 1918, as this was when the Queen Mary's Army Auxiliary Corps was named. Previously the regiment, first formed in March 1917, had been known as the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps.
[Original reads: 'OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN ON THE BRITISH WESTERN FRONT IN FRANCE. British and American Officers enjoying a rest at a rest house in France well known to officers on active service. A detachment of the Q.M.A.A.C. is employed here.']
